Verification is a process used to verify information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to ensure its accuracy. Any student who completes a FAFSA can be selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education or the UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

If you are selected for Verification, you will be asked to complete a Verification Worksheet and provide additional supporting documents. During this process, UMKC will compare information from your FAFSA with the information you provided. If there are differences between your FAFSA and your financial documents, UMKC will correct any variances and resubmit your FAFSA to the Central Processing System (CPS). CPS will then send you an updated Student Aid Report (SAR).

Please allow two weeks for the verification process to be completed. The process might take longer if we receive incomplete documents or require additional information. Sometimes, we require clarification on forms you submit, which could also delay processing.

Your financial aid funds cannot be applied to your UMKC account until verification has been completed. Return the requested documents to us as soon as possible.

Verification must be completed four weeks prior to the end of the semester to allow processing time for your financial aid.

Some applicants will be required to submit copies of an IRS Tax Return Transcript(s) and W2(s). To obtain a copy of your IRS Tax Return Transcript see the following document:

If you have been asked to complete verification, please refer to the forms and directions below.
